Inktober 2023 Day 30 Rush
Looking back at the sweets available during my childhood, I must say they weren’t much to boast about. Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s in Singapore, I ate lots of rabbit sweets and Hack’s cough drops during extended family gatherings. I liked the thin rice paper that the rabbit sweets were wrapped in and only ate the Hack’s ones when there were no other options. Thinking about it now, calling a cough drop Hack’s seems distastefully on point.
But the 1980s brought Famous Amos cookies, who were really clever at piping that freshly baked cookie smell into any shopping centre they were at, and the delightfully named munchkins of Dunkin Donuts. I still believe they taste better than actual donuts even if they are made of the very same thing. Oh and gummy bears - so chewy and filled with E numbers - and huge spiral candy that I would suck on for a bit and put back in the wrapper for another day.
