Packing Postcards

Postcards from Chip Bee - packed and ready to go to their owners

In December 2018, my husband and I spent a weekend packing postcards. I took my time, using it as a therapeutic exercise. Repetitive actions bring about theta waves in the brain, creating a mental state of relaxation, leading to the free flow of ideas. I love creating ideas and being in this state is something I thoroughly enjoy.

It was pleasant spending a few afternoons slowly packing my little postcards to get them ready to go to their new homes, and creating a conducive state for ideas to pop into my mind.

It was also a pleasure to see the different postcards coming together as a product. I felt like I had achieved something - the tangible result of an idea that had begun in my head and the culmination of the work that I had put into realising it.

As the postcards were going to my neighbours, I wanted to make sure that they would not get dirty, so I used envelopes and stamped them with stamps that I had made. If you would like to know more about the process, have a look at this post which describes how I went about making the stamps.

My idea was to reduce waste and not to use plastic bags. However, I ended up having to pack the postcards and their envelopes in plastic bags after all! We were having heavy rain in December and the post in the letterboxes was getting soaked, so I had to dig around for plastic bags that I had previously hoarded.

Also to package the postcards for the shops, I had to use plastic bags. I actually wanted to use compostable bags but I could not find any suitable ones here in Singapore. Next time, I will have more time to do the research for them and to get them. If you have any ideas of where to get them in Singapore or online, drop me a line!
