Remembering my mother

Clothing and accessorising were one of the many ways in which my mother expressed her creativity and artistic sensibility. To this end, she had a collection of clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories, jewellery and sunglasses.
Each outfit was meticulously curated and when she could not find what she wanted in the shops, she would make her own. Shopping was a combination of mission and discovery: she was always on the lookout for a piece that would complete a look but was open to trying new things.
When my mother died, we had cupboards full of her beautiful clothes - material manifestations of her artistry, inventiveness and style.
Unfortunately, I could not fit into them and we could not keep them all. I repurposed some of her clothes and kept other things, like this pair of sunglasses. Their colour and shape convey so much of my mother’s personality. In their unique way, they keep her memory alive.
